十九歲那年，父親過世了。認識父親的時候，他已經是個老人。是退守到台灣的老榮民，是做餅人，同時也是收藏破爛的拾荒者。
如果要我的母親有什麼夢想，就是給我們家後面的空地砌上一圈水泥拿來種花、買一台新的冰箱、找一個工時不太長的工作、明天洗床單的時候不要下雨……
