English Debate Team - A year in review

At Ying Wa Girls' School, the English Debate Team (YWGSEDT) views debate not just as public speaking, but as a rigorous intellectual journey of questioning assumptions and mastering the "process of thought."

During the 2025–2026 academic year, our team stayed highly active across three core areas:

• Internal Events: We hosted bi-weekly mock debates and organised the Internal Debating Championships for Junior and Senior divisions.
• Collaborations: We organized friendly matches with Wah Yan College Hong Kong and St. Stephen’s Girls’ College, alongside specialized training workshops (including the Greg Forse Debate Skills and YWMUN workshops).
• External Tournaments: Our debaters proudly represented YWGS in major external competitions (such as Sing Tao Debate Competition and the Hong Kong Bar Association Debate Competition) and participated in over ten Model United Nations (MUN) conferences.

Reflecting on our progress, we are actively leveling up our competitive edge. Moving forward, the team is introducing a targeted apprenticeship mentorship programme for personalized coaching, peer-adjudication opportunities, and motivational performance leaderboards.

Led by Captain Dion Chan (5B) and the EXCO team, YWGSEDT continues to nurture resilient, critical thinkers ready to speak up, speak loud and speak out.
