A Visit to the Sun Museum

Twelve S4 and S5 students of Visual Arts visited the Sun Museum on Jul 9.  The Sun Museum is a non-profit, non-governmental museum in Hong Kong that aims to foster the development of arts and culture in Hong Kong SAR and China.  Students joined a guided tour for two exhibitions in the museum,  The Place: Fantasia of Scenery by Tang Ying Chi and The Phase: Hong Kong Contemporary Ceramics.  The exhibitions respectively showcased paintings by renowned Hong Kong female artist Tang Ying Chi, and recent works by 26 members of the Contemporary Ceramic Society (H.K.).  Through attending these two exhibitions, students developed a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional craftsmanship as well as the creativity blending Eastern and

Speech Day 2021

The annual Speech Day was held on July 6 at the Silcocks Hall.  Our Principal, Mr Francis Kwan, welcomed parents and congratulated all graduates on their successful completion of their secondary school education. 

Among the honourable guests was our distinguished alumna and internationally acclaimed director Ms Cheung Yuen Ting, Mabel.  In her address, she used the metaphor of frangipani (雞蛋花), often considered as the “school flower” of Ying Wa, to acclaim the inner qualities of our girls such as the willingness to serve, the ability to shine and the possession of a humble heart.

Invitational Programming Contest for Girls

Tang Yui Ying (5D), Wang Jun Wei Serena (5D) and Mak Cheuk Yin (5E) from the Computer and Programming Team achieved delightful results in the DGS 160th Anniversary Invitational Programming Contest for Girls held on July 2.  Working closely as a team, they tackled many challenging questions and applied computer programming skills during the 3-hour competition.   They won the first runner-up in the contest and overall Ying Wa won second place among all participating schools.

CLP Engineer in School (EIS) Programme 2021

Thirty S1 and S2 students of the school’s STEM Team joined the CLP (China Light & Power) Engineer in School (EIS) Programme 2021 by taking part in the CLP STEM Workshop at the HKAYP Jockey Club Duke of Edinburgh Training Camp.  The theme of the EIS was “Explore a New Power Journey”.  

Scientific and environmental topics such as power generation, transmission and supply, the importance of using clean energy etc were covered.  Supervised by the CLP instructors, students had to assemble a robotic ejector.  Not only did students apply their prior scientific knowledge to the new technologies taught, but they also enjoyed various challenging and fun activities.

Personal Finance Planning Competition 2021 - Champion

5 Secondary Four students of Business, Accounting and Financial Studies (BAFS) won the Champion of the Personal Finance Planning Competition 2021, organized by the School of Business and Department of Economics and Finance of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong.  The students submitted a report to explore possible financial traps encountered by adolescents and propose corresponding financial planning possibilities and tips.  Their work was well received by the judges who commented that the proposal would be able to enhance the financial independence and wellness of youngsters.

National Flag Hoisting Ceremony (June 2021)

The National Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held on June 20, 2021 to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the implementation of “one country two systems” under the People’s Republic of China.  Thanks to the Civic Education Committee, the theme of the relationship between the Constitution of the People’s Republic of China and the Basic Law of the HKSAR was selected to help cultivate students’ sense of national identity and develop deeper understanding towards the importance of upholding the rule of law and the National Security Law.

「中史解碼KOL大募集」初中組亞軍

本校中一甲班學生張雪嵐、彭婉琪及楊凱晴參加了由教育局及香港電子學習教育協會合辦的「中史解碼KOL大募集」短片創作比賽,獲初中組亞軍。該項比賽旨在鼓勵學生以資訊科技結合中國歷史,透過活潑、具創意的短片,介紹中國建築、軍事、娛樂、服飾、飲食等知識,讓學生認識中國歷史及中華文化的不同面貌,並培養學生自學能力。

End of Term Activities 2021

Thanks to the Extra-curricular Activities (ECA) Committee, a wide range of recreational, cultural, leadership training and sports activities were organized for the S1 and S2 on June 30.  These activities ranged from Pastel Nagomi Art, team building, rock climbing to pickleball etc. which facilitated both students’ physical and mental development.  In addition to having lots of fun, students could also adapt to the new school life under COVID-19 easily.  Through various kinds of activities, students could understand one another better, enhancing cooperation and fostering mutual support.
