2024/2025 Application for Secondary 1 Discretionary Places (S1DP)


School Pamphlet 家長注意重要事項 Important Information for parents
  1. Ying Wa Girls' School (“YWGS”) is a government aided secondary school. The School was founded in 1900 by the former London Missionary Society, and is now a related school of the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China. 
  2. Application procedure :
    Collection of Application Form

    i) Download from school website (www.ywgs.edu.hk) and print on A4-sized white paper, or
    ii) Parents can contact school if they have difficulty in downloading the application form

    Period :

    11 December 2023 - 16 January 2024

  3. Submission of Application Form

    i) Submit in person (either by the applicant's parent or an entrusted person)
    ii) Parents can also submit application via the SSPA e-Platform

    Period :

    2 - 16 January 2024
    (except Sundays and Public Holidays)

    Office Hours :

    Monday to Friday : 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
    Saturday : 9:00 am - 12:00 noon

    Place : School Office, Robinson Road Campus (must use Robinson Road entrance)
    Documents required :

    i) Application Form for S1DP issued by the Education Bureau
    ii) YWGS's S1DP Application Form
    iii) Applicant's school reports for Primary 5 (whole year) and Primary 6 (first term) – photocopy
    iv) ID Card of the student – photocopy
    Remarks : There is no need to provide any letters of recommendation or certificates of awards

  4. All applicants will be invited for an interview, the date of which is 9 March 2024 (Saturday). Details will be announced in due course.

  5. Parents of successful S1 DP applicants will receive notification from school by letter and phone on 27 March 2024.

  6. The formal admission result will be announced on 9 July 2024 concurrently with the release of the Central Allocation results. In the event that there are still unfilled places, the School will contact the applicants on our waiting list. Applicants who fail to attend the interview will not be included in the waiting list.

  7. The School is permitted to allocate 51 discretionary places (DP) based on the Education Bureau's set proportion for permitted DPs. Prospective students may also apply for a place in our School in the Central Allocation stage of the Secondary School Places Allocation (SSPA) System 2024 – either through the unrestricted school choices (11 places available) or the restricted school choices (98 places available). Details can be referred to the Information Leaflet on the SSPA System 2022/2024 Cycle issued by the Education Bureau.

  8. The School's admission criteria for DP :

    (i) Academic results 50%
    (ii) Interview performance 30%
    (iii) Performance in extra-curricular activities 10%
    (iv) Conduct 10%
  9. From past experience, the School receives a lot of enquiries about DP application every year. We therefore will hold School Information Session on S1 Admission on 9 December 2023 (Saturday) to brief prospective students and their parents about the school mission, our educational beliefs and the admission procedures.

  10. Below are the details of the briefing session :

    Time: First session : 9:00 am  - 10:15 am
    Second session : 11:30 am - 12:45 pm
    Third session : 3:00 pm - 4:15 pm
    Programme:    Introduction of the school, admission procedures, Questions & Answers 
    Registration: 1. Period : 1 November 2023 (9:00 a.m.) - 24 November 2023
    2. Method :  Register online via the school website ( www.ywgs.edu.hk )
    3. Remarks :  The School will confirm the registration within 3 working days via SMS.
    In case that school cannot conduct face-to-face information sessions due to the pandemic, an online information session will be held.
    * Seats for the information sessions will be limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis. Each family can apply for a maximum of three seats. Parents who are unable to register for the briefing session due to over-subscription may still obtain relevant information from the school website or the School Brochure attached to the application form.
