Financial Assistance by the Government

The Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) administers the following financial assistance schemes for needy students:
The Senior Secondary Fee Remission (FR) Scheme is to provide assistance to needy S4 to S6 students to continue their senior secondary education.
The School Textbook Assistance (TA) Scheme is to provide assistance to needy students for covering the costs of essential textbooks and miscellaneous school-related expenses.
The Student Travel Subsidy (STS) Scheme is to provide travel subsidy to needy students, residing beyond 10 minutes walking distance from school and traveling to school by public transport.

Financial Assistance by the School

1. About the Fund

The Student Welfare Fund is a welfare benefit designed to help families with financial needs arising from exceptional circumstances that they cannot meet from regular income.

2. Who may apply

All students currently enrolled in Ying Wa Girls' School are eligible to apply for the Welfare Fund if their families are on a low income and have financial hardship. 

3. Selection Criteria

  • Subsidies will be granted to families experiencing financial difficulties and have an emergency need.
  • Amount of grants will be decided on individual needs. In general, grants will not exceed $5000 (or $500 per month) for each family and a family may only receive one grant in a ten month period. 
  • Priority will be given to successful applicants for Government Grants (Fee remission/Textbooks Assistance Scheme/Student Travel Subsidy).
  • Under normal circumstances, subsidies will NOT be granted to:
    • students of bad conduct
    • recipients of Comprehensive Social Security Assistance

4. How to apply

Forms are available from the General Office. The form requires confirmation from a social worker, class teacher or similar person who is aware of the general circumstances of the applicant. Application will be accepted throughout the year.

1. About the Fund

The Jockey Club Life-wide Learning Fund aims to support needy students to participate in life-wide learning programmes organized by the school.

2. Who may apply

All Secondary 1 - 6 students currently enrolled in Ying Wa Girls' School are eligible to apply. 

3. Selection Criteria

  • Subsidies will be granted to families experiencing financial difficulties. 
  • Priority will be given to those who are either eligible for full grant of the Student Financial Assistance Agency (SFAA) or receiving the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA).

4. How to apply

Forms are available from the General Office. The form requires recommendation by class teacher. Application will be accepted throughout the year.

1. About the Fund

The Alumnae Association Trust Fund aims to develop students' all-round education.

2. Who may apply

All Secondary 1 - 6 students currently enrolled in Ying Wa Girls' School are eligible to apply. 
Both staff and student bodies can submit proposals.

3. Selection Criteria

  • Application twice a year - late March and late October
  • Forms available in school office
  • Completed form to Mr. Francis Kwan
