Interact Club Committee Members Leadership Training Workshop 2019

All committee members of the Interact Club participated in a leadership training workshop on 9 November 2019.  Led by experienced social workers and teachers, committee members engaged in several self-discovering and team-building activities, such as maze finder, barriers in communication, dodgebee etc.  The workshop provided physically and emotionally challenging activities for club leaders so that they can better understand one another’s strengths and weaknesses.  With stronger bonding, team members were equipped with various skills to face challenges and are ready to serve our community with sincerity and perseverance.

Awards of Lions Clubs 2019 3ON3 All Hong Kong Student Basketball Tournament (2019)

Hard work and rigorous training led our Basketball Team to another outstanding feat in the Lions Clubs 2019 3ON3 All Hong Kong Student Basketball Tournament (2019).  A total of 12 teams participated in the categories of U16 and U18 and 16 teams in U12.

List of Awards:

U12 – Champion, Most Valuable Player: HO Ching Yin of 1A

U16 – Champion, Most Valuable Player: YEUNG Yat Hei of 5A

U18 – Second Runner-up

AGM of Parent-Teacher Association (2019)

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was successfully held on 2 November 2019.  The PTA thanked the school, teachers and parents in contributing to all the events held last year.  Ms Tracy CHENG and Ms Kary FUNG, our school social workers, introduced various programmes, such as parents’ talks and the PTA picnic day of this academic year.  Meanwhile, our Principal, Mr.

Sharing by Civic Education Assistants (FFPT 2019)

First Floor Plain Talk (FFPT) is a tradition of Ying Wa to provide a platform for students to express their opinions openly.  Five secondary 5 Civic Education Assistants came up with the topic “The old and the new, which one is better?” and shared their thoughts in English during the morning assembly on 30 Oct 2019.  They discussed the topic under four major themes, the school, Hong Kong, life and technology.  Not only did the assembly serve as a platform for student leaders to train their speaking skills, but it also helped students reflect on the core values of Ying Wa, Hong Kong and the world as well as the importance to embrace challenges.

Visual Art Tour to Beijing

Ten students of Visual Arts from Secondary Four and Five participated in the Education Bureau’s Mainland Exchange Programme to Beijing from 23 to 26 October 2019.  The students explored the school life of local students in the Beijing Film Academy and attended a xiqu (Chinese opera) lesson in a middle school affiliated to the National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts.  They also visited various heritage sites, such as the Prince Gong’s Palace, hutongs (the atmospheric narrow alleyways of Beijing, representing the traditional life in the Chinese capital) and the Beijing Capital Museum etc.

Sharing by Senior Geography Students

Three secondary 5 geography students participated in the Young Ambassadors for Geo-conservation Training Programme (青年地質保育大使).  They attended a number of workshops and fieldtrips in summer 2019, learning various geo-conservation theories, geo-tourism and geo-tour leading techniques.  They put what they had learned into practice by promoting geo-conservation during the school assembly on 23 October 2019.  Having invited 3 more secondary 5 geography students to join the sharing session, the team discussed the importance of striking a balance between environmental conservation and urban development.

Achievements of Students with Academic Excellence (2019)

Yu Chu Lam Scholarship (庾柱林獎學金) was launched in Ying Wa to encourage S6 students to strive for academic excellence.  Two Secondary Six Graduates (2018-2019), LO Wing-sum Amy and NG Sum-yin, were awarded the scholarship with $10,000 each to recognise their efforts and outstanding results in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) 2019.  Amy and Sum-yin attained Level 5** in five subjects and four subjects respectively.

At tertiary level, Amy was also awarded a total of $50,000 in the Kunkle and Pommerenke Admission Scholarship and the Chung Chi Scholarship offered by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, recognising her academic excellence in the Faculty of Medicine in 2019.

Lim Tian Xin – Second Runner-up in Hunger Run

Hunger Run is an annual charity calorie drive running event of the social enterprise, Foodsport.  LIM Tian Xin of 6E won the second runner-up in the 4-km running race under the junior women category.  A total number of 8 teachers and students joined 2-km or 4-km race under different age categories.
