Debate Activity (Cantonese)

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our Debate Activity (Cantonese) organized by the Civic Education Committee.  Sixteen students from Secondary 2 to 3 were recruited and formed into four teams, participating in two rounds of competitions held from early to end October.  The topics covered during the debates focused on Chinese culture and personal growth, allowing the students to express their thoughts and arguments in a structured and well-reasoned manner.  Engaging these young minds in debate activities not only enhances their critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork skills, but also fosters confidence and self-expression.  The event was a resounding success, showcasing their impressive abilities.

Award of Korea Forum 2023

Jointly organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Cultural Center, and the School of Modern Languages & Cultures of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Korea Forum for Hong Kong Young Leaders 2023 took place on October 21 at HKU.  Wong Hoi Ying Sophia (3A), Cheung Suet Nam (3B), and Siu Hoi Yan (3C) participated in the Grand Final and presented their research findings on Korea's development.  They were awarded the Best Research prize for their outstanding work.

STEM Study Tour (Hengqin & Zhuhai)

On October 21, 2023, a group of 27 students from S1-5 participated in a STEM study tour to Hengqin and Zhuhai, organized by the STEM Department.  They visited Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd (AVIC) (愛飛客航空科普基地), which provided insights into aviation development and showcased different aircraft.  They also took part in an Aerospace-themed workshop on the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (北斗衛星導航系統) in Hengqin.  At the workshop, they learned about the system's functionality and the importance of developing a navigation satellite system for our country.  Additionally, they engaged in a hands-on activity assembling the Beidou positioning module to receive signals like latitude and longitude from the Beidou satellite.

Talk by Wong Kwan Nga in S5 CSD

The Citizenship & Social Development (CSD) Department invited alumna Ms Wong Kwan Nga (Graduate of 2021) to share her personal life, experiences, traditions, and customs in Chongqing and Shenzhen with classes 5B, 5D, and 5E in mid-October 2023.  She shared stories of her hometown Chongqing, painting a vivid picture of its vibrant culture, rich history, and warm community connections.  She then delved into her life in Shenzhen, highlighting the city’s fast-paced lifestyle, cuisines, fashion culture, and accommodation.  Food delivery and online shopping platforms have surged in popularity in the Mainland, becoming integral to people’s daily lives due to convenience, variety, competitive prices, and efficiency.

Sharing by the Interact Clubs of YWC & YWGS

YWGS embodies more than just Ying Wa Girls' School; it also represents "Yes We Go and Serve."  In April 2023, the Interact Clubs of Ying Wa College and Ying Wa Girls' School collaborated to organize a three-day community service project (深緒情緣) in Sham Shui Po.  Participants had the opportunity to engage with the issue of homelessness and on October 18, they shared their experiences and reflections during the morning assembly.  This sharing aimed to raise awareness among students about the challenges faced by underprivileged and marginalized individuals in Hong Kong.

2023 Harvard GlobalWE Essay Contest

Chan Hui Wing (6B) has emerged as the winner of the 2023 Harvard GlobalWE Essay Contest, while Lau Nga Kiu (6C) received an honourable mention. 

The Harvard GlobalWE Essay Contest provides an opportunity for students to engage in topics relating to global women's rights and freedoms. Through this process, it encourages participants to learn and think critically about women and girls who face daily challenges that often define their communities but not their aspirations.

S3 Adventure Day

A successful S3 Adventure Day was organized for the whole form, taking place on October 13.  The event featured team-building activities that aimed to foster class spirit and develop physical strength through mild exercises.  The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves, actively participating and engaging in the activities with enthusiasm.  The Adventure Day provided not only an enjoyable experience but also an opportunity for personal growth and the development of teamwork skills.

Morning assembly of 'Catch a Dream'

On October 11, three students shared their experiences during the morning assembly about their application for Mrs Katherine Chau's Scholarship.  They discussed their goals, such as scheduling swimming sessions to improve their performance, creating watercolour paintings, and participating in service projects.  These stories emphasized the significance of setting challenging goals, fostering confidence, perseverance, and problem-solving skills.  All students are encouraged to pursue their dreams with determination and seize opportunities for personal growth through the application of the scholarship.
