National and Civic Education Committee
The National and Civic Education Committee (formerly known as the Civic Education Committee) organises activities to promote students’ understanding of national identity, national security, and civic awareness. It also focuses on national security education, working with various subjects and committees to develop curriculum and school activities that strengthen students’ sense of responsibility and national identity. New programmes, such as cultural exchange initiatives with secondary schools in Beijing and Shanghai (under the Sister School Scheme), have been implemented to build strong connections and promote national pride, cultural appreciation, and students’ thoughtful engagement with national security issues. Through cross-curricular collaboration, programmes such as Cantonese debate, an English talk on school history, and cultural and heritage activities in the Greater Bay Area were introduced to support students’ personal growth and critical thinking.
Guidance Committee
The Guidance Committee is committed to facilitating the comprehensive development of Ying Wa students, supported by the dedication of all staff members. This committee is made up of 9 teachers, 2 social workers from the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society, an educational psychologist from the Church of Christ in China, as well as a clinical psychologist who serves as an educational consultant. The committee leads the charge in planning multiple developmental programmes and provides remedial services to students and their families.
To enhance student resilience, strengthen peer connections, foster positive attitudes, and develop effective emotional management strategies, a variety of activities are organised. One notable event is the High Event Challenge, specifically designed for all S1 students. In keeping with our long-standing tradition, 35 dedicated Guidance Assistants from senior classes offer their support to S1 newcomers as they transition to secondary school life. Additionally, regular developmental programmes, including mental health talks, sex education, and family life education sessions, are scheduled throughout the year.
We also engaged in the Peer Power Student Gatekeeper Training Programme to bolster awareness and understanding of mental health among students. After completing the training, peer leaders initiated various school-based mental health promotional activities, such as Wellness Week, featuring an exciting range of interactive game booths.
Through the collaborative efforts of our staff and external professionals, the committee is dedicated to fostering the growth of Ying Wa students into healthy, well-rounded individuals.
Discipline Committee & Prefect Board
Discipline Committee
The Discipline Committee consists of 8 teachers dedicated to upholding general discipline within the school. This committee formulates, reviews, and enforces school rules in collaboration with both the staff and the Prefect Board. When necessary, disciplinary measures are implemented to help students develop self-discipline and take responsibility for their actions. In addition, the committee works closely with the Guidance Committee to provide support for students with special needs. Each year, talks and workshops are organised for various forms to foster positive values among students. In line with the school’s BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiative, a school-wide talk on protecting personal information was conducted. This effort aims to enhance students’ sense of responsibility regarding their personal data and to raise awareness about safe social media practices.
Prefect Board
The Prefect Board consists of approximately 70 students from S3 to S6, all of whom are nominated by their peers and teachers, then elected by the entire teaching staff for their exemplary conduct and discipline. Guided by 4 teacher advisers, the prefects perform daily responsibilities to ensure discipline within the school and serve as ambassadors during significant events such as the Speech Day and Parents’ Day. Moreover, the Good Class Scheme is implemented to encourage self-discipline and cultivate a sense of responsibility among students. Regular workshops and training camps are conducted to help prefects maintain a balance of fairness, firmness, and friendliness as they fulfil their duties and navigate challenges.
Religious Committee
The Religious Committee continues the tradition of Christian culture established by our missionary founders from England. The committee coordinates efforts among teachers, students, alumnae, and pastors from local churches to foster the spiritual and moral development of students rooted in Christian beliefs and practices. This is achieved through the Junior and Senior Christian Fellowships and various activities.
The committee also organises religious and evangelistic events both within and outside the school. It arranges religious services for the entire school community, allowing students and teachers to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ, His teachings, and His grace during special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Founder’s Day, and Easter. Additionally, all S4 classes take turns leading morning assemblies, guided by the committee and other teachers, to present content aligned with the school’s objectives.
This year, the S1 Religious Education lessons were used to carry out the Life Mentorship Programme. With the support of pastors and church members from the Hong Kong Baptist Church, classes are conducted in small-group format. This approach allows students to receive closer attention and engage in more in-depth faith discussions.
