YWGS under WWII
An assembly, "YWGS under World War II," was jointly-organized by the Heritage Education Committee, History Department, and the Self-access Centre (SAC). Students relived the story of our ex-principal Ms Silcocks, who was caught and interned in the infamous concentration camp at Stanley during World War II. Despite the hardship during the Japanese occupation, Ms Silcocks demonstrated courage and commitment to service by staying at our school until retirement. In addition, after the war, she invited the underprivileged to attend lessons taught by Ying Wa students free of charge. This act of kindness provided the most vulnerable with an opportunity to receive valuable education, which could be life-changing. Ms Silcocks’ perseverance, unconditional love, and diligence truly shone a light upon others and became a blessing to many.
