Excursion at Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark

On Friday, November 15, 2025, 39 students from S5 and S6 Geography and Tourism and Hospitality Studies embarked on an insightful excursion to the North-eastern New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region of the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark.   This excursion provided a crucial opportunity for students to link theoretical knowledge with real-world geological landscapes.

The excursion began with a ferry trip along the Tolo Channel, where students observed unique formations like the ‘Devil’s Fist’ in Bluff Head and the reddish rock in Port Island.

The key learning experience was at Lai Chi Chong, where students had hands-on practice exploring different rock types and various landform features.

Students reflected that the trip deepened their understanding of local geodiversity and highlighted the critical need for environmental protection.   The experience successfully reinforced the importance of appreciating and conserving Hong Kong's geological heritage.
