In Loving Memory of Mr Wong Kuen (1949 – 2026)

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that the Ying Wa community bids farewell to a beloved educator, mentor, and friend, Mr Wong Kuen (王權), who passed away on 29th March 2026.

Serving Ying Wa Girls' School from 1978 to 2005, Mr Wong was a cornerstone of the Chinese Department.  For over two decades, he did not simply teach Chinese Language, Literature, and History; he transformed the pages of textbooks into vibrant, living experiences within the classroom.

Mr Wong inspired generations of students with his genuine love for the written word and his appreciation for the inherent beauty of the Chinese language.  He challenged his students to look beyond the surface of historical texts, sharing profound insights that bridged the gap between ancient history and modern life.  Through his dedicated and soulful teaching, many students discovered a lifelong passion for the humanities.

His influence did not end at the classroom door.  Mr Wong maintained meaningful relationships with his alumnae for decades, proving that a true teacher’s impact spans a lifetime.  Beyond his academic brilliance, what many of us carry in our hearts is the memory of his vibrant personality.  Alumnae fondly recall his loud, infectious laughter — a sound that often filled the room when he reminisced about his cherished years at Ying Wa.  That laughter was a testament to a life lived with joy and a career fueled by kindness.

On 4th April 2026, family and friends gathered to honour Mr Wong, whose life was a masterclass in loyalty and compassion.

Thank you, Mr Wong Kuen, for your loyal service, your unwavering kindness, and the intellectual spark you ignited in so many of us.  You have left an indelible mark on the history of Ying Wa, and your spirit will continue to live on through the many lives you touched.
