HKJC Chairman’s Scholarship

It is with great joy and pride that we celebrate the remarkable achievement of Wong Sum Yi, (Graduate of 2023) for her winning the Hong Kong Jockey Club (JC) Chairman’s Scholarship (香港賽馬會主席卓越獎學金) on November 2, 2023.  Being one of the selected 15, Wong Sum Yi was awarded this esteemed scholarship for her exceptional academic achievements, recognizing her dedication and commitment to pursue her undergraduate studies in Hong Kong.  The evening drew to a close with a heartwarming reunion with alumnae who were also JC Scholars from previous years.

Talk by Alumna Ms Yip Yuk Ying

An inspiring talk by alumna Ms Yip Yuk Ying (葉鈺瀛) took place during the morning assembly on November 1.  Yuk Ying candidly shared her experiences during secondary school, acknowledging that she was not initially a very diligent student.  However, she discovered her true passion and overcame academic challenges.  Pursuing her studies at the Academy of Film in Baptist University of Hong Kong, she ventured into scriptwriting before ultimately becoming a film director.  Yuk Ying encouraged Ying Wa girls not to fear difficulties and to pursue meaningful dreams.  She emphasized the importance of passion in both career and life, encouraging them to dream big and fearlessly pursue their aspirations.

AGM of Parent-Teacher Association (2023)

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was successfully held on October 28, 2023.  Mr Webster Yeung was elected as the Chairperson, and Ms Chan Bo Chu as the Vice-chairperson.  Mr Yeung shared the accomplishments of the PTA in 2022-2023, including events like the gathering with Secondary Six students, parent volunteering, and the preparation of fruit and appreciation cards for Teachers' Day.  Our Principal, Mr Francis Kwan, updated attendees on recent school activities, academic achievements, and introduced the upcoming "Sponsored Walk" event.  Vice-principal, Ms Chau Chui Shan, shared her visions for the Parent Academy programme.

Careers Talk by Hok Yau Club for S3

A Careers Talk for S3 parents and students was held on the morning of October 28.  The event aimed to provide vital guidance, helping parents and students make informed decisions aligned with students' aspirations.  We express our gratitude to the Careers Committee for inviting Mr Ng Po Shing from Hok Yau Club as our distinguished guest speaker.  His insightful session covered subject selection in the New Secondary School (NSS) Curriculum, addressing challenges in balancing students' interests and career development, methods for parental support, student discretion, and changing university entry requirements.

History Talk by Professor Ting Sun Pao Joseph

A captivating History Talk was organized in Ying Wa on October 27 with the presence of Professor Ting Sun Pao Joseph (丁新豹教授), a renowned expert in Chinese and Hong Kong history.  Professor Ting, former Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History and History and Heritage Education Consultant of Ying Wa since 2014, delivered an engaging and thought-provoking talk that captivated the audience.

Professor Ting delved into the history of some prominent figures who were buried in Hong Kong's various cemeteries since 1842.  His analysis highlighted the unique characteristic of the co-existence of different ethnic cultures in the local history, shedding light on the diverse heritage of the region.

Talk by Ms Beti Chung

We were delighted to host a talk by our alumna, Ms Beti Chung, during the morning assembly on October 25.  Currently working in an investment bank, Beti is also a multi-talented individual, known as a slasher.  She runs a popular Instagram page promoting her cooking skills, with over 150,000 followers.

During the assembly, Beti highlighted the engagement rate on Instagram and shared her experiences in operating the page, as well as her journey in writing books and winning public awards.  She emphasized the importance of creativity, learning diverse skills such as photography and videography, effective communication, and the courage to explore new ventures.

Debate Activity (Cantonese)

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our Debate Activity (Cantonese) organized by the Civic Education Committee.  Sixteen students from Secondary 2 to 3 were recruited and formed into four teams, participating in two rounds of competitions held from early to end October.  The topics covered during the debates focused on Chinese culture and personal growth, allowing the students to express their thoughts and arguments in a structured and well-reasoned manner.  Engaging these young minds in debate activities not only enhances their critical thinking, effective communication, and teamwork skills, but also fosters confidence and self-expression.  The event was a resounding success, showcasing their impressive abilities.

Award of Korea Forum 2023

Jointly organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Cultural Center, and the School of Modern Languages & Cultures of the University of Hong Kong (HKU), the Korea Forum for Hong Kong Young Leaders 2023 took place on October 21 at HKU.  Wong Hoi Ying Sophia (3A), Cheung Suet Nam (3B), and Siu Hoi Yan (3C) participated in the Grand Final and presented their research findings on Korea's development.  They were awarded the Best Research prize for their outstanding work.
