41st Athletics Meet 2017

25 October (Heats) and 6 November (Final) 2017

Thanks to glorious weather and fantastic team work, our 41st Athletics Meet this year completed early and everyone had an enjoyable time outdoors at Wan Chai Sports Ground.  Despite the smaller number of student helpers, events got off to a smooth start on both days.  After the opening service on the heats day and final day respectively, Mr Allan Cheng Kwun Kit and Ms Tori Mainey reminded us in their speeches of the significance of sports not just as a tool for fitness but as a driving force for personal and social change.  For example, throughout history, sports have enabled the disadvantaged to show they are deserving: Wilma Rudolph overcame social and racial discrimination and physical disability to show the world what she could achieve at the Olympics; Billie Jean King proved women are not inferior to men on the tennis court.  After two days of intense competition, Ms Celina Yuen Wah Chu reminded everyone of the true meaning of sportsmanship at the Closing Ceremony.  Impressive records were set and Jenkins House emerged as the overall champion this year.
