Citizenship and Social Development Mainland Study Tour on April 9 & 10, 2025
The 2-day-1-night S5 Citizenship and Social Development Mainland Study Tour was conducted smoothly and successfully on April 9 and 10, 2025. The tour was sponsored by the Education Bureau and organized by Bestlink Cultural Exchange Limited (百利國際文化交流中心). A total of 123 S5 students and 15 teachers spent two days in Shenzhen to learn about the city’s economic development (深圳經濟發展內地考察兩天團).
The convenience and efficiency of crossing the border via the Shenzhen Bay Port took us to Shenzhen in no time. Our first stop was the Nantou Ancient City (南頭古城), which allowed us to appreciate the country’s cultural preservation. Students learned about the city’s history, strolled around the area, visited mini exhibition spaces converted from old buildings, and admired the beautiful landscape.
Next, we visited the Nanshan Museum (南山博物館), which is responsible for the collection and research of archaeological relics excavated in the Nanshan District. This museum also focuses on the ancient maritime Silk Road and the collection and organization of historical relics in the Guangdong region.
The second day of the tour began at the Shenzhen Reform & Opening-up Exhibition Hall (深圳改革開放展覽館), where students learned about the background, impressive progress, and major achievements of our country’s reform and opening-up. The various displays of pictures and relevant items consolidated what students had learned in Citizenship & Social Development, history, and Chinese history lessons. Students also attended the Shenzhen Planning Exhibition, which taught them about urban planning and design.
The visit to the Shenzhen Museum (深圳博物館) concluded our 2-day tour. After a guided tour at the Shenzhen Museum of History and Folk Culture, students were free to explore the Shenzhen Museum of Ancient Art, the Shenzhen Reform and Opening-up Exhibition Hall, and the Former Site of Dongjiang River Guerrilla Command Headquarters, catering to their individual interests.
Overall, students thoroughly enjoyed the unforgettable 2-day Mainland Study Tour, as this authentic experience allowed them to learn and see for themselves how impressive Shenzhen truly is. It also helped to consolidate their sense of national identity and enhance their sense of belonging towards our country.
