EMSD STEM Study Tour to Korea
From August 28 to 22, 2025, a group of seven Secondary Five students took part in the "Engineering Opportunities for Wan Chai Korea Study Tour" organized by Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) after winning the third prize at the Social Innovation Competition organized by the same department.
During this educational and cultural exchange, our students were inspired by Korea’s leadership in green energy and technological innovation. A visit to a hydrogen energy facility in Chungju demonstrated how organic waste can be converted into clean hydrogen, offering an integrated solution to waste management and sustainability through localized, closed-loop processes.
A highlight of the tour was the Samsung Innovation Museum in Suwon, where students explored the evolution of electronics—from early breakthroughs to contemporary innovations such as smart appliances and immersive technologies. The exhibits illustrated the relationship between technology and everyday life while encouraging forward-looking thinking about future advances.
The itinerary also showcased Korea’s cultural richness, including traditional architecture at Jeonju Hanok Village and an urban-regeneration landmark at Cheonggyecheon in Seoul. Jeonju Hanok Village features hundreds of preserved hanok homes that contrast beautifully with the surrounding modern cityscape, while Cheonggyecheon exemplifies thoughtful restoration that blends history, ecology, and public space.
This tour facilitated students to gain first-hand experience and insight into the latest innovations in technology, green technology, and sustainable environmental infrastructure in Korea. Overall, the tour was an enriching experience that deepened students’ understanding of cultural preservation, technological development, and environmental sustainability in Korea.
