History Talk by Dr Kwong Chi Man 2025
The History Department was honoured to invite prominent historian Dr Kwong Chi Man (鄺智文) to present a history topic on “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly: Lives in Japanese Hong Kong, 1942-1945,” during the OLE on February 21, 2025. Rather than reiterating familiar historical narratives, Dr Kwong utilized the stories of various individuals – including a marine fish expert, military officers, a Catholic military commander, and a prison camp commandant – to illustrate the complexities of human nature during wartime. We are grateful that Dr Kwong’s presentation broadened our understanding of how events can be viewed from multiple perspectives.
