Inter-house Debate Competition (Consilience) –Final
The grand final of the inaugural Inter-house Debate Competition (Consilience) was successfully held on May 16.
In the debate, three junior students from Silcocks House faced off against three from Hutchison House on the motion, “This House believes that Barbie is a bad influence on children.” They presented thought-provoking arguments related to self-image and consumerism.
Adjudicators Mr Stephen Cooley and Ms Mandy Kan, from the Native-Speaking English Teacher section of the Education Bureau, awarded Silcocks House the edge over Hutchison House, citing a more effective team line and more persuasive delivery.
The competition featured eight teams and three rounds of debates. With senior debaters as their coaches, the finalists underwent two preliminary rounds to secure their place in the championship round. They displayed passion, confidence, and resilience throughout the course of the competition.
