S1 STEAM Day
China Light & Power (CLP) Engineer in School
Engineers from CLP delivered a talk covering electricity, energy, climate change, and energy conservation, along with insights into the engineering profession and career prospects. Students showed great interest in the daily life of an engineer, and raised many questions during the Q&A session at the end.
Capacitor EV Challenge
The students then participated in a fun and creative activity on assembling and racing capacitor-powered cars. Working in groups, they modified their car designs to maximize travelling distance, exploring the physics behind capacitor charging as well as the mechanics of motors and gears in a model car. A representative group from each class then took to the stage to present their design and the importance of electric vehicles over traditional fuel-powered cars, as well as the practical limitations of a full transition to electric vehicles in society. They then entered the inter-class competition, where every group put their design to the test to compete for the longest distance travelled. Students were well-engaged and enjoyed, showcasing their creativity and developing valuable hands-on skills.
