S4-5 Literature in English Theatre Outing
On 7 March, our S4-5 Literature in English students watched the reimagination of Sophocles’ tragedy, Antigone, at Lyric Theatre, HKAPA. Produced by Norwegian director and choreographer Alan Lucien Øyen and his dance company, winter guests, this thought-provoking rendition challenged students to rethink the eternal struggle between power and justice.
Through the blend of dance theatre and spoken-word performance, the production breathes new life into the Greek classic. Moving beyond a traditional retelling of the story, the students watched a show that illustrated Antigone’s defiance and spirit being shared by women across generations. This experimental production deepened students’ understanding about the relationship between gender and society, demonstrating the enduring relevance of Greek tragedy.
