Sharing by Ms Gladys Mattras and Wong Kwan Nga Vivian at S4 and S5 CSD Lessons
The Citizenship & Social Development (CSD) Department was very pleased to have invited two alumnae to share their experiences with the S4 and S5 classes on June 20, 2025. Ms Gladys Mattras (S4 Graduate, 2019) engaged the students in a meaningful discussion about embracing and accepting their identities. She started by asking the students for their impressions of mixed-race individuals, helping to clear up common stereotypes and misconceptions by relating her own confusions and challenges as a Eurasian in both France and Hong Kong. Gladys delved deeply into identity and beauty issues, sharing her struggles to find her sense of self. She now happily embraces both French and Chinese cultures and beauties, both of which form her unique identity.
On the same day, Ms Wong Kwan Nga王筠雅Vivian (S6 Graduate, 2021) shared her insights into clothing, food, housing, and transportation (衣食住行) mainly in the cities of Shenzhen and Chongqing. By providing authentic and current examples, such as using apps for travel, ordering takeout, shopping for clothes, and booking various services, students found the information highly valuable. They were impressed by the convenience, efficiency, and variety that these goods and services offered. Overall, positive values such as appreciation, national identity, openness, plurality, and a sense of belonging to our country were fostered.
