Sharing by Ms Gladys Mattras on cultural diversity

The Citizenship and Social Development (CSD) Department was delighted to once again welcome Ms Gladys Mattras (S4 Graduate, 2019) to speak with our S4 students on cultural diversity during the CSD lesson.  Gladys led an engaging and thought‑provoking discussion on the importance of embracing and accepting one’s identity.  She began by inviting students to share their perceptions of mixed‑race individuals, using her own experiences as a Eurasian growing up in France and Hong Kong to challenge stereotypes and clarify misconceptions.  Drawing from her personal journey, Gladys spoke frankly about the struggles she faced in reconciling issues of identity and beauty, and how these shaped her search for self‑understanding.  Today, she proudly celebrates both her French and Chinese heritage, recognizing that the blend of cultures and perspectives is what makes her identity unique.
