Study Tour to Antarctica

Four S4 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure, organised by the Partners Education Foundation, to Antarctica from November 26 to December 8, 2024.  After several rounds of screening interviews, Chan Wai Anissa (4B), Lau Sum In (4D),  Siu Hoi Yan (4E), and Wong Hoi Ying Sophia (4E) were selected to join the trip.

Throughout their journey, they had the privilege of meeting distinguished scientists who shared valuable insights into the unique geographical and biological features of the continent.

Upon arriving in Antarctica, the team of 4, who named themselves “the Icebreakers”, were captivated by the natural beauty of the environment and had the rare opportunity of observing penguins and enjoying the view of majestic mountains.  The group also witnessed the effects of climate change firsthand, watching icebergs breaking apart due to rising temperatures linked to human activities.

Additionally, the Icebreakers broadened their horizons by forming new friendships and engaging in cultural exchanges with students from Argentina.  They gained valuable knowledge about wildlife from experts and were inspired by the passion of scientists from diverse backgrounds.

Following this adventure, the Icebreakers shared their experiences with fellow students by hosting an assembly on Jan 21, 2025, organizing game booths, and sending newsletters to their supporters.  They also posted vlogs on their Instagram page @ywgs_icebreakers.  The group extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this journey possible, including the YWGSAA Trust Fund, the Yu Chu Lam Education Fund, as well as alumnae, parents, teachers, and peers.  They will always cherish this incredible journey.
