Sydney Astronomy and Science Study Tour
From 6 to 12 August 2026, students joined a 7-day Australia Sydney Astronomy and Science Study Tour, combining astronomy, science, university visits, nature and cultural exploration.
Astronomy was a major focus of the journey. Students visited the Sydney Observatory, Macquarie University Astronomical Observatory, and Mount Stromolo Observatory where they learned about astronomical observation, explored the history and development of astronomical research and appreciated the night sky of the Southern Hemisphere. They also enjoyed an immersive planetarium experience and professional stargazing activities. A highlight of the tour was the visit to the CSIRO Deep Space Communication Complex, where students learned how giant antennas communicate with spacecraft and discovered Australia’s role in international space exploration.
Students visited the University of Sydney and Macquarie University, gaining a glimpse of university life and future study opportunities. They also joined an Architectural Tour of the Sydney Opera House, visited Taronga Zoo, explored the Blue Mountains and Scenic World, and toured famous Sydney landmarks including Darling Harbour, The Rocks and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
The tour was a memorable and enriching experience, giving our YW girls opportunities to explore science beyond the classroom, broaden their horizons and discover the wonders of the universe.
