Talk on Cheongsam

The cheongsam has always held a special place in the hearts of Ying Wa girls, symbolizing our school's rich heritage.  On October 8, 2025, we were thrilled to delve into the history of this traditional garment during a morning assembly organized by the History Department.

Miss Cheng Chau Hung Quinn (鄭秋紅) and Mr Lau Hiu Lok Andrew (劉曉樂) from the Hong Kong Cheongsam Association visited Ying Wa to educate us about the cheongsam's origins and evolution.  They began by emphasizing its significance as part of the intangible heritage list, and then went on to illustrate how Western influences and feminism have shaped its design over time.

A particular highlight of their presentation was the use of photographs from our Heritage Block, which vividly depicted the cheongsam's transformation.  These images demonstrate how Ying Wa has borne witness to societal changes throughout its century-long history.
