Shameen (Shamian) Study Tour & Talk by Prof. Ting Sun-pao Joseph
We are honoured to have Professor Ting Sun-pao Joseph (former Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History, current Honorary Assistant Professor at the HKU School of Chinese and Adjunct Professor in the Department of History at the Chinese University of Hong Kong) talk to us at assembly on 29 March and guide us on the study tour from 28-30 June.

HKSS Debating Competition District Final (Champion)
The S5 Debate Team emerged as the champion of the Hong Kong & Kowloon District Division I Final on 28 June 2017 after winning five out of six rounds in the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition (HKSSDC) this year. Debaters in the final match include Chan Ying Ying Leticia (5E), Chan Lok Yu Zoe (5A) and Yip Pui Lam Regina (5D). Debaters involved in previous rounds of the competition include Lai Cheuk Yi (5A), Wun Yuet Tung Natalie (5A), Cheng Tsz Ki (5B), Lau Tak Yi (5B), Chan Cheuk Yee (5C), Ho Cheuk Yee (5D), Lee Hiu Yui (5D) and Ng Ying Tung (5D).

Lego Robotics Course
With the aim to promote STEM education, a 3-session Lego robotics course was held from 26 to 28 June in school. The course enabled students to explore their interest and realize their potential in robotics. They worked hands-on in teams to design, build, programme robots, and document their progress. One of the tasks was to put over hundreds of Lego pieces together to form a robot. It helped develop students’ motivation to continue their study in computer science and engineering courses.

Music Tour to Austria
With the aims of polishing up on our choir's performance skills and broadening their horizons, the Music Department organised a tour to Austria from 23 June to 2 July. This year 23 members of the School Choir was accompanied by our beloved guide dog, Bene.

Dance World Cup 2017 (Finals)
After getting outstanding results in the Dance World Cup Hong Kong Qualifying Match 2017 and Asian Cup 2017, Ying Wa Chinese Dance Team and Jazz Team were qualified to enter the World Finals 2017 in Offenburg, Germany. The World Finals 2017 is the greatest all-genre dance competition in the world for children and young people. A total of 19 dance team members and 2 teachers of Ying Wa arrived in Germany on 23 June (HKT) to take part in competitions, sightseeing and attending masterclasses.

STEM Activity for S2
The Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC) offered a workshop to all S2 students to develop their hands-on learning experience in building their own products through a 3-hour STEM workshop. Students were divided into four groups to learn about the working principles of a hovercraft, glider, remote-controlled car and morse code machine. By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, this workshop helped develop students’ passion for science.

Overall 1st Runner-up – Inter-school Volleyball Competition 2016-2017
With passion, hard work and team spirit, the Ying Wa Volleyball Team emerged as the overall first runner-up in the Inter-school Volleyball Competition 2016 – 2017. Players from all three grades showed dedication to the sport and trained hard to improve their game throughout the year.

Green Ambassador Pitch Speaking Contest 2017
A team of five S6 students won the Best Presentation Award at The Green Ambassador Pitch Speaking Contest 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 7th June 2017. This event was organised by The Hong Kong Green Building Council Limited (HKGBC), a non-profit making organisation established in 2009 to promote the standards and developments of sustainable buildings in Hong Kong. The competition aims to enrich students' understanding about climate change and encourage them to take action for environmental conservation. Our team successfully presented their proposal on how to rally people around them to eliminate disposable plastic bottles from their daily lives.
