Science Tour to Singapore

To promote STEM education and broaden the students’ horizons in science and technology, the Aerial Photography and Technology Team organized a study tour to Singapore, from 23 to 27 July. 20 S2 and S3 students joined the tour and participated in different science activities organised by "Science Festival @Singapore Science Centre". Students visited “Makerfaire”, which was an exhibition of booths displaying products which were invented by local secondary students and technology companies overseas. They also attended a 2-day workshop to assemble a robotic arm using programming language. Students were equipped with electronics and programming skills which allowed them to further explore robotic applications in solving daily life problems.

扶輪少年服務團服務活動

2017年7月18至20日,本校扶輪少年服務團聯同聖類斯中學Youth Club參與服務活動。是次活動的服務對象是香港紅十字會瑪嘉烈戴麟趾學校的殘障兒童。參與的義工非常投入,積極拉近與服務對象的距離,為兒童帶來歡樂,場面溫馨、熱鬧。

STEM Robotics Competition 2017

A team of five S1–S2 students joined the STEM Robotics Competition 2017 (全港STEM機械車創意解難大賽) on 17th July. Two robots (i.e. Mbot) were programmed to do two missions, namely "The Exploration Mission to Mars" (火星探索) and "Asteroid Tractor" (小行星牽引). The team ranked 8th among 20 secondary schools. They demonstrated their logical thinking, collaboration and problem solving skills through the competition.

Okinawa Tour with 20 Awarded Tickets

The Civic Education Committee and the Global Exposure Committee joined hands to plan an itinerary in Japan, in a competition organized by Hong Kong Airlines. Ying Wa was among the 150 shortlisted schools / NGOs, and won 20 return tickets to Okinawa, Japan. An exchange tour was held from 16 to 20 July with the themes of nature and foreign influences and the impact of WWII on Okinawa. A visit to a local secondary school was arranged to deepen students’ understanding of the Okinawa culture.

End-of-term Service 2017

The school term drew to a close on 14 July with two sessions of the End-of-term Service for junior and senior forms.  In the address of our honorable alumna and guest speaker, Ms So Ka-wai Patsy, emphasized the importance of cultivating a thankful heart and nurturing a sense of belonging to the school.  Using her personal stories, she showed how important it was to dedicate our lives to our family, work and to the school.  Principal, Mr Kwan Hon-cheung Francis followed with an invigorating speech about working hard and playing hard.  He urged all Ying Wa girls to have dreams, no matter big or small, for dreams drive our effort to step out from our limitations.

EIE Robotic Challenge Junior 2017: Robot Hunter

Four S4 students participated in a robotics competition which was held by the Department of Electronics & Information Engineering Department (EIE), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  Our team won the First-Class Prize, showing that girls can excel at robotics.  The EIE provided workshops for participating students to develop their robots. Students learnt about the electronic circuitry inside a robot, including the skills related to designing, 3D-printing and programming.  This activity helped develop students' creativity, enhanced their problem solving skills and stimulated their interest in electronic engineering.

Training Camp for Guidance Assistants

35 senior form students were recruited in May 2017 to help Secondary One newcomers to adapt to the life in Ying Wa.  A 2-day training camp was organised (12-13 July) for these Guidance Assistants to learn to be good companions to their  'little sisters' in the next academic year.  They will also arrange various exciting programmes for their schoolmates.
