Awards of 3D For Good Challenge 2024

The 3D For Good Challenge, a new competition this year centred on “Hong Kong Culture,” invited participants to work in teams of two to five.  The YW STEM Department sent a team of four S4 students, Chan Hoi Yan (4C), Lam Enke (4D), Hung Ling Tung (4E) and Wong Hok Ue (4E), to join the competition, securing both the First Runner-up position and the Best Presentation Award.  Students used software such as Nomad Sculpt and Blender to create and sculpt 3D models, which were displayed after printing and colouring.  Through this experience, students not only honed their technical skills in 3D design but also developed important teamwork and communication skills.

Inter-school Swimming Competition 2024

The School Swimming Team has delivered impressive results at the Inter-School Swimming Competition (Division II).  The first round took place on October 10, and the finals were held on October 17.  The team secured the A Grade Champion title and achieved an overall 3rd place finish in the competition.

This exceptional performance reflects the swimmers' skill and determination, showcasing their ability to excel in a competitive environment.  The dedication to preparation and training has undoubtedly contributed to their success at this prestigious event.

Talk by Ms Li King Hei Lois

It was our pleasure to have invited alumna Ms Li King Hei Lois (李璟希) to share how she pursued her dream as a fashion designer.  Not having a particularly smooth academic path as wanted, Lois finally followed her heart and went to the School of Fashion and Textiles at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  Lois told students that everyone could be his / her own designer.  We should face adversities and uncertainties with confidence and perseverance.  What’s more, Seneca’s quotation of “we suffer more in imagination than in reality” has been empowering her to challenge and prove herself.  In addition to being a designer, Lois has been engaged in several marathons and will further challenge herself by joining the Translantau Race in November 2024.  Lois conclu

History and Geography Tour to Shenzhen

The History and Geography Departments co-organized a two-day-one-night tour for 37 S2 and S3 students, led by 4 teachers and 1 alumna, providing an enriching experience.

On the first day, students participated in workshops to create handmade crafts and accessories at New Splendid China.  Additionally, they visited various miniature landmarks that showcased China’s diverse cultures and different ethnic groups.  Engaging exhibits and performances offered opportunities for a deeper understanding of the rich heritage of our motherland.

STEM Tour to Shenzhen

On October 11, a group of 30 students from S1 to S4 and 3 teachers participated in a STEM study tour to Shenzhen.  They visited Da Jiang Innovations (深圳大疆創新科技有限公司), where students learned about various generations of drone products and their development to meet different functional needs.  Insights into the latest aviation advancements in China were also provided.  Students interacted with a new drone launched in September 2024 and explored AI functions in image recognition for tracking.  The day concluded with hands-on activities at a sports and VR Experience Centre, allowing students to engage with various VR technologies in exciting adventure games.

History Talk by Professor Ting Sun Pao Joseph

Professor Ting Sun Pao Joseph (丁新豹教授), one of the most distinguished experts in Chinese and Hong Kong history and the former Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History, has been the History and Heritage Education Consultant for Ying Wa since 2014.  The History Department organized a talk and invited Professor Ting as the speaker for the afternoon assembly on October 10.  Professor Ting examined the historical development of the Maritime Silk Road, focusing particularly on the interactions between Arabs from the Middle East and the Chinese across different dynasties.  He also presented various images illustrating the development of different religions in China resulting from these interactions along the Maritime Silk Road.

SA, Inter-house and Appointed Post Inauguration Ceremony 2024

The inauguration ceremony of the 76th Student Association (SA), the 34th Inter-house Committee and all appointed posts, namely the Guidance Committee, Careers Committee, Civic Education Committee, Library, Student-access Centre, Stage and Technology Team, Alumnae Association, Campus TV Team, Learning Ambassadors, Green Warriors, Heritage Education Committee and Eco-amigos was held during the morning assembly on October 9, 2024.  Student leaders took oaths to serve the school with faith, diligence and concerted efforts.

125th Anniversary of Ying Wa Girls’ School

United in Faith, A Future Unleashed (凝聚信念 迸發光芒)

As we eagerly anticipate our 125th anniversary in 2025, Ying Wa Girls' School is abuzz with excitement.  This year, we celebrate with unbridled joy, free from the shadows of the pandemic that marked our previous milestone five years ago.  We still revel in the cherished memories of last year’s Homecoming Day and the Grand Opening of the 1926 Heritage Block.
