CHIJ-YWGS Twinning Programme 2016

Ten girls from CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) of Singapore spent five days in Ying Wa from 31st October to 4th November 2016 to join lessons and have class activities together with Ying Wa girls. They were assigned to different S.3 classes. Several girls from each class volunteered as buddies to take care of their Singaporean guests. One of the highlights of the week was a cultural exchange between CHIJ and Ying Wa students. Our girls got the chance to introduce our school and talk about the culture in Hong Kong while the CHIJ girls shared what life is like in Singapore. Though their stay was short, it was a valuable exchange programme where many memories and friendships were made.

The PTA expressed thanks for the support of the school, teachers and parents in the previous academic year, which enabled it to complete all the activities satisfactorily. The highlight of the AGM was the sharing of students who had taken part in different overseas tours in Cambodia, China, the USA and the United Kingdom. Not only were they exposed to another culturally rich environment, but they also learnt a lot of leadership skills and became more socially aware through organizing the tours and doing community service.

Performance of ‘The Taming of the Shrew’

On 28 October 2016 Ying Wa was transported to Shakespeare's Italy when eighteen students, including cast and managers, put on a performance of 'The Taming of the Shrew' for an enthralled audience. It was a great opportunity for both the performers and the audience to appreciate the Bard's relevance to the 21st century.

The atmosphere was set for the play with an introduction to Shakespearean music during the Ying Wa Good Show at lunchtime a few days before. It was a good collaboration between different committees to bring a refreshing cultural experience and a fine musical treat to the campus.

Meet Bene, Our Canine Friend

Ying Wa is abuzz with excitement this term as we welcome our only male 'student' called Bene. He is the only one with permission to lie down and dream during class, but in return for this privilege, he has to perform the special duty of guiding his visually impaired buddy, Sharon, around the school.  Bene’s name is the Latin word for ‘good’ and he is truly well-mannered.  This two-year-old golden Labrador has charmed his way into the hearts of many other girls.
