CSD Mainland Study Tour 2023

The first ever S5 Citizenship and Social Development (CSD) Mainland Study Tour was conducted smoothly and successfully on July 12.  The tour was sponsored by the Education Bureau and organized by H.C. International Exchange Center (華暢東方文化國際交流有限公司).  137 S5 students and 16 teachers spent a day in Shenzhen to learn about the city’s innovative technology and cultural preservation (深圳創新科技發展及文化保育內地考察).

Gathering early at the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, we were awed by the efficiency of the High Speed Rail which took us to Futian Station (福田站) in no time.  The first stop was the Gankeng Hakka Town (甘坑客家小鎮) where students got to learn about traditional Hakka culture and strolled around the town, appreciating the beautiful landscape and enjoying some delicious food.

After learning about cultural preservation, our next stop, the Shenzhen Industrial Museum (深圳市工業展覽館), took us to a completely different attraction of the city.  We were immediately greeted by the smart lockers using facial recognition technology.  The guided tour also inspired us with various kinds of cutting-edge technologies such as the applications of the 5G technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in our daily life.

Our last stop was the Shenzhen Museum (深圳博物館) with 4 attractions including the Shenzhen Museum of History and Folk Culture, the Shenzhen Museum of Ancient Art, the Dongjiang River Guerrilla Command Headquarters Memorial Museum and the Shenzhen Reform and Opening-up Exhibition Hall.  Students got to visit any exhibition hall, catering for their preference.

Our tour drew to a close with a brief sharing at the Futian Station.  Despite a long day, the exposure and experience students had were indeed treasurable.
