Cathay Pacific 2018 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards
Organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation) and subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Cathay Pacific, the Cathay Pacific 2018 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Ceremony was held on 26 March to recognise the outstanding performance of Hong Kong athletes. Our student, Vivien Chiu (趙蕙芸), was awarded the Hong Kong Junior Sports Stars Awards. Vivien was grateful that the school, teachers and her peers have always been supportive of her.

Champion - The HKFYG English Public Speaking Contest
Rudaba Rubaiyath (S3) took home the Champion in the Grand Final of the HKFYG English Public Speaking Contest, jointly organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) and the English Speaking Union (Hong Kong). In her winning speech, she analysed reasons why Hong Kong people had become less happy in recent years and gave tips on how we could live a happy life.The contest aims at enhancing young people’s public speaking and communication competences, as well as their abilities to think critically.

National Olympiad in Informatics in Provinces 2018
Students made unprecedented achievements at the National Olympiad in Informatics in Provinces (NOIP) 2018 where a total of 5 senior form students were awarded medals.In the Senior Group of NOIP 2018, Cheng Tsz Ying (5E) won a gold medal, which was the first-ever gold medal awarded to Ying Wa. Lee Cho Man (5D), Lee Ching Laam (6A) and Au Sui Yu (6D) won silver medals while Ho Ka Shuen (5C) won a bronze medal.

Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics 2018/19
Our girls made us proud at the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics 2018/19 with 5 students being awarded medals.In the Junior Group, Cheng Tsz Ying (5E) won the first-ever gold medal for Ying Wa with her excellent performance while Luo Elysia Songen (3E) was awarded a bronze medal. In the Senior Group, Ng Sin Ting (6C) won a silver medal. Ho Ka Shuen (5C) and Lee Ching Laam (6A) were awarded bronze medals.All prize-winners were invited to join the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics Training Team for more intensive training. Vivien CHIU – 1 Gold & 2 Silver Medals in ACC
Vivien CHIU of S5D took part in various races in the Asian Cycling Championships (ACC) 2019 and won one gold and two silver medals. The results were encouraging as Vivien helped the Hong Kong Cycling Team win the first gold medal in the ACC this year.

1819 Choral Speaking Champion
3E received 1st place at the Choral Speaking Secondary 3 Girls Competition on 13 December with the performance of the poem “Of Course There was Nobody There” by Janis Priestly. It was a particularly special victory as the Hong Kong School Speech Festival celebrated its 70th anniversary. The adjudicator, Rosalind Taylor, commended the girls on their discipline and teamwork. In the morning assembly of 19 December, they were invited to perform to their fellow schoolmates. Teachers and students enjoyed the performance and their hard work was highly appreciated.

Achievements of School Teams
Our school teams have been busy with various tournaments this term and our spirits were greatly lifted by their achievements. In early December, our Volleyball Team entered the Inter-school Volleyball Competition (Division 1, Grade A) and emerged as the Second Runner-up. Moreover, our Basketball Team became the First Runner-up in the Inter-school Basketball Competition (Division 1, Grade A) in late November. Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme 2018/19
YIP Pui Lam, a Ying Wa graduate of 2018, has been recently awarded the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme 2018/19 (offered by the Education Bureau). The scholarship supports outstanding local students to pursue their studies in world-renowned universities outside Hong Kong, with a view to grooming a top cadre of talents with global visions, international networks and world-class education.
