Fifty years of grace, a lifetime of good work, an evening of celebration …
Around 200 guests, teachers, alumnae and students joined our Thanksgiving Dinner as Ying Wa toasted the 50th anniversary of the ordination of Rev. C.C. Lee. Her illustrious service and guiding principles – "give up not, refuse not, fear not and have hope" – continue to inspire many in our Ying Wa family and Hong Kong.

Talk on Treasuring Life 2016
Thanks to the ECO Foundation (環保慈善基金) and Guidance Committee, the OLE event on 18 November 2016 inspired students to cherish life and taught them how to face adversity with tenacity. We were privileged to hear and learn from two exceptional personalities in Hong Kong -- namely Dr Ko Wing Man (高永文醫生), Secretary for Food and Health of HKSAR, and Mr Chau Kin Ming (仇健明先生).
Dr Ko gave us an insight into the behind-the-scene battles faced by healthcare personnel during the SARS period, and won a lot of admiration from his audience for healthcare workers who soldiered on with their duty to care for the public in trying circumstances. He was also gracious enough to share with the students how to respond rationally to academic setbacks in order to continue to learn and grow.

40th Athletics Meet (Heats and Final)
We were blessed with great weather this year for both sports days. The heats were held on a bright sunny day after weeks of drizzle, and the final took place on a cool and refreshing day. As usual, the highlights were the fun-filled Graduation Cup, the Open Relay which attracted nimble-footed parents, staff and students as well as the breath-taking performance by the five cheering teams in the finale.

Mentorship Programme 2016-2017
In order to broaden the horizons of YW girls, mentors of different professions have kindly provided guidance and support, not only in careers, but also in personal development, for participants on the Mentorship Programme since its inception over a decade ago. The year 2016 marked the 12th anniversary of the Mentorship Programme. An orientation meeting was held on 12 November 2016. This year, there are a total of 36 students and 29 mentors participating in the Mentorship Programme.

City University Discovery and Innovation Debating Challenge 2016
Twelve students spent their Saturday getting a taste of university life, and of English debating recently. Organized annually by the Education Post Team at SCMP and hosted by the City University of Hong Kong, the programme offered 220 S4 and S5 students a campus tour, innovative demonstrations by selected faculties, a valuable debating workshop by Mr Stan Dyer, Coordinator of the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Debating Competition, and an inside look at creative marketing strategies by Mr Hillman Lam, GM of Ctrip.com. After a lavish lunch buffet, twenty teams faced off in a debating competition before the prize presentation ceremony.

Talk by Mr Chan Cheuk Ming
We were delighted to have Mr. Chan Cheuk-ming (fondly known as 'Ming Gor'), to talk to us about his experience of serving the needy in society. A restaurant owner turned philanthropist, Mr. Chan shared with us how he started to give out free meals to the poor and the homeless in Sham Shui Po when he became aware of their plight. His selfless act won him kudos from the public and the media and public support garnered eventually turned his eatery into a social enterprise named Pei Ho Counterparts. From his example, our students were encouraged to be more involved in community service, and they look forward to participating in community service projects organized by Mr. Chan soon.
