The Right Formula for Success

Congratulations to Lau Lok Tim of 5A who won the Platinum award for her exceptional performance in the ‘Chemists Online’ Award Scheme, which was part of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s prizewinning hybrid learning platform that combines the best of face-to-face teaching and online media. Only a Secondary 4 student in the summer of 2014, she came first among 8000 secondary school students from Hong Kong and Macau who benefited from the exposure to university level chemistry through seminars, quizzes and laboratory sessions. Online learning promotes independent inquiry and motivates her to stretch her limits. She relished the challenge of being able to apply her chemistry lessons to the world of pharmaceuticals.

Your Say - Life Education Programme

“Your Say” is a whole-school Life Education Programme that is in its second year. The aims are to foster students’ concern for the society at large, to provide opportunities for students to express their views in a responsible and creative way, and to promote class spirit. Each class held discussions in October to choose a social issue of interest. Then students did research on the issue and displayed the materials collected to stimulate further thought. In November everyone in the class wrote her opinions on a specially designed comment sheet which was subsequently displayed on the noticeboard.

Debate Champion

On 11 December 2014, Secondary Five debaters emerged as Champions of the Hong Kong Secondary School Debating Competition (Kowloon Senior Division 1). The team included novices as well as experienced debaters. The Team Leader is Phoebe Chan. Best Speakers in the respective matches were Kelly Lau, Ashling Chan and Esther Wong. The team’s achievement would not have been possible without the help of other debaters in the hosting, timekeeping and chairing in each round. We congratulate them and wish them all the best in the next series of matches.
