Homecoming Concert (Album 2)

The Music Department organized the Homecoming Concert on May 18 at the Silcocks Hall, which provided an opportunity for students and the Alumnae Choir to showcase their talents.  The event was attended by teachers, parents, alumnae, and friends of Ying Wa, who were treated to a magnificent performance by the String Orchestra, Junior Choir, Senior Choir, Alumnae Choir, Chamber String Orchestra, Piano Quintet, and Percussion Ensemble.  The success of the performance owes itself to the hard work and dedication of all the performers involved.  The audience was captivated by the enchanting melodies that filled the hall, leaving them spellbound.

Talk on Early YW Years

The School Heritage Committee organized a morning assembly on May 16 to reflect on our early years, which included a discussion of the reasons behind our founder, Miss Helen Davies' development of a boarding school and the founding of our kindergarten.  Under the theme of 'language across the curriculum', the English Department, History Department, and the Self-access Centre collaborated to arrange a student-based presentation.  Four students, ranging from S2 to S5, delivered a multi-faceted performance that incorporated drama and other creative elements.

S4 Exhibition Visits: Integrating Values Education in English Curriculum

As part of the English Department's values education programme, we organized two exhibition visits for a group of S4 students in this school year.

The first exhibition, titled "Coming Full Circle – The Tailor World of Ng Ming" at PMQ, provided students with valuable insights into the importance of perseverance through the story of Mr Ng Ming, a skilled tailor with a terminal illness.

English Debates for Junior Forms

Three debates for each junior year level, S1, S2 and S3, were held successfully from late April to early May.  Six debaters from each form got to showcase their skills in front of their peers and contested on topics such as adolescent mobile phone ownership, robot teachers, and the use of artificial intelligence.

First-runner Up of Lacrosse Competition

Our Lacrosse Team achieved an impressive accomplishment, securing the first-runner up position in the All Hong Kong Inter-Secondary Schools Lacrosse Competition 2023-2024.  The competition took place at the Jockey Club HKFA Football Training Center on May 12.  We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated team members, as well as the coach and PE teacher who played vital roles in this outstanding achievement.

Sharing by Ms Karen Lo

The Citizenship & Social Development (CSD) Department was very pleased to have invited alumna Ms Karen Lo (Graduate of 2017) to share with classes 5A and 5C on May 6 and 9, 2024.  Karen shared her interesting encounters in Hong Kong upon her arrival from Chaozhou (潮州).  Not being able to master Cantonese at that time, she gave us a good laugh by recalling how her misinterpretation and misunderstanding of Cantonese landed her in bewilderment, embarrassment and even in trouble in primary school and in a fast-food restaurant.  She then proceeded in teaching the girls a few phrases in the Chaozhou dialect which is very difficult to pronounce accurately and shared unique customs such as the tea culture, the food culture and religious practices.  The
