End-of-term Service 2017
The school term drew to a close on 14 July with two sessions of the End-of-term Service for junior and senior forms. In the address of our honorable alumna and guest speaker, Ms So Ka-wai Patsy, emphasized the importance of cultivating a thankful heart and nurturing a sense of belonging to the school. Using her personal stories, she showed how important it was to dedicate our lives to our family, work and to the school. Principal, Mr Kwan Hon-cheung Francis followed with an invigorating speech about working hard and playing hard. He urged all Ying Wa girls to have dreams, no matter big or small, for dreams drive our effort to step out from our limitations.
EIE Robotic Challenge Junior 2017: Robot Hunter
Four S4 students participated in a robotics competition which was held by the Department of Electronics & Information Engineering Department (EIE), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Our team won the First-Class Prize, showing that girls can excel at robotics. The EIE provided workshops for participating students to develop their robots. Students learnt about the electronic circuitry inside a robot, including the skills related to designing, 3D-printing and programming. This activity helped develop students' creativity, enhanced their problem solving skills and stimulated their interest in electronic engineering.

Training Camp for Guidance Assistants
35 senior form students were recruited in May 2017 to help Secondary One newcomers to adapt to the life in Ying Wa. A 2-day training camp was organised (12-13 July) for these Guidance Assistants to learn to be good companions to their 'little sisters' in the next academic year. They will also arrange various exciting programmes for their schoolmates.
Ying Wa Cup Basketball Tournament 2017
The Ying Wa Cup Basketball Tournament is a noble tradition of the school’s Basketball Team. Through this tournament of friendly matches, teams from participating schools not only learn more about basketball, but also develop a sense of camaraderie. This year, it was our honour to have hosted Hong Kong True Light College, United Christian College, Kowloon True Light Middle School, Fukien Secondary School and St. Stephen's Girls' College. The tournament was held from 11 to 13 July. Every school took part in the tournament wholeheartedly and with a united spirit.

Full Scholarship to study at Oxford University - Ms Ma Ming-yan Carissa
Ma Ming-yan Carissa, a S6 graduate of Ying Wa in 2012, completed her undergraduate study with outstanding results in the Department of English of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She was on the Dean's List in 2013, 2014 and 2016, and recently awarded the Esther Yewpick Lee Millennium Scholarship 2017 to pursue a postgraduate degree, Master of Studies in English Studies, at Somerville College in Oxford University. In a recent interview with Ming Pao, Carissa shared about the importance of developing a habit of reading to learn a language well. She was a keen writer and debater during her time at Ying Wa.
Speech Day 2017
Matured by their HKDSE experience, S6 graduates returned to school to attend Speech Day on 10 July.
Health in Mind Programme (Second Year)
15 senior form students completed the "Youth Mental Health Promotion Programme - Health in Mind", organised by the Hospital Authority, Kwai Chung Hospital and MINDSET of the Jardine Matheson Group. In these two years (2015-2017), students attended workshops about mental health, organised activities for schoolmates and for rehabilitated patients. Apart from polishing their leadership skills, students also acquired knowledge about mental illness, developed the spirit of respect and took on the responsibility to "educate" others so as to help to eliminate the stigma faced by people with mental illness in society.
