Christmas Message from the Principal

Dear alumnae and friends of Ying Wa,

2020 has been a tough year. Amid the global pandemic, lockdowns, and social unrest, you may feel stressed or lost at times. You may even find it hard to rejoice and give thanks. Yet, it is important to remember the scripture in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”.

We thank our Lord for sending His son Jesus Christ to mankind. His love and promise for us makes Christmas a season of hope and light. We are also heartened by His blessings in our various school events:

Sponsored Walk and Thanksgiving Service 2020

The Thanksgiving Service and the Sponsored Walk were conducted successfully in the last week of November.  We would especially like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Lee Lok Man of Baptist Church of Caine Road (堅道浸信會李諾雯傳道) to share the theme on “See Him in Times of Adversities” (「逆」能看見祢).  Although we may face uncertainties, we will definitely be able to find the path with light and life under the guidance of our Lord.

Sharing by the Ethnic Minorities

With the coordination of CEDAR Fund (施達基金會), the Urdu Neighbour Centre (烏都鄰舍中心) and the Liberal Studies Department of Ying Wa, several guests of Pakistani and Indian origin visited each of the S6 class in November 2020.  The guests shared the differences in cultures, traditions, food, customs, religions, festivals, education and women’s status between their country and Hong Kong.  It was indeed an enjoyable lesson in which students could learn much from the guests’ personal stories and experiences.

Sharing by Civic Education Assistants (FFPT 2020)

First Floor Plain Talk (FFPT) is a tradition of Ying Wa which provides a platform for students to express their opinions openly.  Four S4 Civic Education Assistants shared the topic Crises and Opportunities in English during the morning assembly on November 18, 2020.  The topic is relevant to Covid-19 which has given rise to a lot of uncertainties.  Despite that, people have the wisdom and courage to deal with all kinds of crises.  Not only did the assembly serve as a platform for student leaders to train their speaking skills, but it also helped students reflect on the importance of embracing challenges in difficult times.

Orientation of Mentorship Program 2020-2021

This year marked the 16th anniversary of the Mentorship Program.  For over a decade, mentors of different professions have broadened the horizons of our girls by providing guidance and support in the areas of careers and personal development.  Over the years, the program has successfully matched mentees with suitable mentors.  An orientation was held on November 14, 2020 which attracted a total of 38 students and 37 mentors.   We gratefully thank our mentors for their valuable contributions in making this sisterhood a meaningful bonding!
