Sharing by Dr Leung Ping Wa
The Citizenship & Social Development (CSD) Department was very honored to have Dr. Leung Ping Wa (梁炳華博士) of the Hong Kong National Education Association share with classes 5B and 5D on February 27, 2023. Dr. Leung shared his insights on the business field, innovation sector and culture of the Greater Bay Area. While explaining how Hong Kong possesses dual advantages under “one country, two systems”, he also shared Hong Kong’s significant roles as an international financial, transportation, trade centres and aviation hub. Students showed their curiosity by raising questions on career prospects and education opportunities. It was indeed a great sharing and we look forward to having him again.

Achievements of Programming Team 2022-23
The YW Programming Team achieved remarkable results in various programming competitions.
Wong Tsz Ching (5D) and Leung Ting Yu (5D) were awarded the Silver Medal in the Junior Group of the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics (HKOI) 22/23, while Lam Sum Ching (5D) received the Bronze Medal.
Wong Tsz Ching (5D) won a First Class Award (一等獎) in the National Olympiad in Informatics in Provinces (NOIP) 2022. She was also awarded the Gold Medal in the Senior Group of the Hong Kong Secondary Schools Software Development Invitational Contest (SDIC) 2022. In the Junior Group, Leung Ting Yu (5D), Lam Sum Ching (5D), and Wong Sum Yi (6C) were awarded Silver Medals, while Lo Zoey (6C) received the Bronze Medal.

HKCCCC Joint Secondary School Art Exhibition 2023: Muses of Art
Our Visual Arts students participated in a 4-day public exhibition titled “Muses of Art”. Organized by the Hong Kong Council of the Church of Christ in China (HKCCCC) from February 24 to 27, the exhibition showcased artworks from 27 secondary schools. This unique exhibition incorporated technological elements and featured a virtual reality gallery, creating a 3D environment where viewers could explore artworks from different angles. Our students contributed nine diverse artworks, including oil paintings, pen and ink on paper, acrylic on canvas, ceramic sculptures, and book sculptures.

Farewell Assembly 2023
A farewell assembly was held on February 24, the last school day for the graduating classes. The assembly this year was especially meaningful to the YW family because it was the first one to be held since the onset of the pandemic. The S6 students melted our hearts with their words of gratitude for teachers, schoolmates and all members of Ying Wa. Our Principal, Mr Francis Kwan, shared his well-wishes and advice for the graduating classes. Singing the hymn “Pass it on”, the S6 girls passed a candle flame from one student to another, which symbolizes the continuation of the school’s heritage.
High Achievers’ Award 2022-23 (First Term)
Students from S1 to S5 with outstanding academic results in the first term of 2022-2023 received recognition for their diligence and dedication to their studies. All students are encouraged to emulate their exemplary performance.
The awards were given to junior form students who ranked among the top three of each class and of each form. As for senior form students, the awards went to those who ranked the top of each subject.

Parents’ Day 2023
Our annual Parents’ Day was held on February 18 with parent-teacher meetings, exhibitions and parenting workshops. Parents also had a chance to check out the book fair and appreciate students’ work in the Needlework Room and in the Art Room. Handmade accessories, knitted garments, and embroidered pieces showcased students’ creativity and skills. Moreover, the Art Room featured a diverse range of art pieces, including paintings, sculptures, and sketches that demonstrated students’ artistic talent and hard work. Not only did the Parents’ Day foster a stronger relationship between parents and teachers, but it also allowed parents to get a glimpse of their daughters’ school life.

S3 Careers Conferences 2023
The Careers Committee organised 2 careers conferences for S3 students on February 10 and 17, 2023. In the first conference, careers teachers introduced 3 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education subjects including Chinese Literature, Literature in English and Information and Communication Technology. Students raised questions actively at the end of the conference to show their interests and enthusiasm. In the second conference, 62 S4-5 student helpers shared their subject selections and learning experiences. Thanks to the Careers Committee that S3 students were now well-informed and were able to choose the most suitable electives based on their capabilities, interests and careers aspirations.

Talk by Learning Ambassadors
15 Learning Ambassadors (LA) delivered a talk on “Learning how to Learn” in the morning assembly on February 15. Thanks to the guidance of the teacher advisors, the ambassadors adopted a structural approach to introducing different types of learning skills, including pre-lesson review, goal setting, and setting questions for themselves etc. In the talk, not only did the LAs present the topic with confidence, but they also shared their own learning experiences across different subjects which helped their schoolmates understand the learning theories behind in order to make appropriate plans for their own learning.
