Founder’s Day Service 2023

The annual Founder’s Day Service was held by the Religious Committee on March 24.  We were honoured to have alumna Mrs Li Sin Lai Wah Jenny (李冼麗華) as our guest speaker.  Not only is Mrs. Li a barrister, but she is also serving as an Honourary Manager of the Incorporated Management Committee (IMC) of our school.  To echo with the theme ‘Give me a chance’, Mrs Li cited from Isaiah 61:1-2 of the Bible and encouraged students to learn from Jesus’ humility and serve others with compassion.  She also shared her personal experiences and inspired us to stay humble and grounded in our lives.  It was truly a meaningful sharing which enriched our spiritual growth and reinforced our long-held positive values.

History Talk by Dr Joseph Ting in S4 History Class

Dr Ting Sun Pao Joseph (丁新豹博士), one of the most distinguished experts of recent Chinese and Hong Kong history and the former Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History, is also our History and Heritage Education Consultant.  We are very honoured to have invited him to share with the S4 History students on “The rise of Chinese elites in Hong Kong after 1842” on March 22.  It helped deepen students’ understanding towards Chinese history before the 20th century as the current syllabus has relatively less coverage on that period.  The talk was interactive and we look forward to having Dr Ting again to further broaden our horizon on Chinese elites.

Sharing by Ms Lo Hiu Shun

The Citizenship & Social Development (CSD) Department was very fortunate to have invited alumna Ms Lo Hiu Shun (羅曉淳, Graduate of 2017) to share with classes 5A and 5E on March 15, 2023.  Hiu Shun shared her interesting encounters in primary school in Hong Kong upon her arrival from Chaozhou (潮州).  Not being able to master Cantonese at that time, she gave us a good laugh by recalling how her misinterpretation and misunderstanding of Cantonese landed her in bewilderment and even in “trouble” with the teacher.  She then proceeded in teaching the girls a few phrases in the Chaozhou dialect and shared various unique customs such as the tea culture, the food culture and religious practices.  The girls were delighted to be treated to some Chaozhou pea
