Sharing by the Africa Center
The Liberal Studies Department was pleased to have invited guests from the Africa Center to share with classes 6B and 6C on October 6, 2022. The guests started off by asking students what they thought the missions of the Africa Center were in Hong Kong in terms of rebranding blackness, connecting the communities and having black consciousness. They then introduced the various African communities in Hong Kong and talked about both the opportunities and challenges they faced. Despite having obstacles in life, Africans are often able to face them with much strength and courage, especially with the use of art. SA, Inter-house and Appointed Post Inauguration Ceremony (2022)
The inauguration ceremony of the 74th Student Association (SA), the 32nd Inter-house Committee and all appointed posts, namely the Guidance Committee, Careers Committee, Civic Education Committee, Library, Student-access Centre, Stage and Technology Team, Student Health Unit, Alumnae Association, Campus TV Team, Learning Ambassadors, Green Warriors and Heritage Education Committee was held during the morning assembly on October 5, 2022. Student leaders took the oath to serve the school with faith, diligence and concerted efforts.

Talk by Ms Skye Chong
The Careers Committee and the STEM Team invited alumna Ms Skye Chong to deliver a talk on ‘My Path as a YouTuber’. Skye studied in YW in junior forms and moved to Paris to continue her studies. She also offered help to our STEM teachers and students when they were staying in Paris for an exchange programme in 2019. Now, Skye is serving as a part-time language teacher (teaching French), taking part in various commercial activities and actively making YouTube videos. In the talk, she told students why she was motivated to be a YouTuber.

National Flag Hoisting Ceremony (Sept 2022)
The National Flag Hoisting Ceremony was held on September 28, 2022 to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. Thanks to the Civic Education Committee, the spirits of President Xi’s important speech celebrating the 25th anniversary of the HKSAR’s return to the motherland were selected as the theme so that students could embrace a strong sense of national identity. The “four proposals” in President Xi’s speech, namely further improving the governance of the HKSAR, continuing to create strong impetus for growth, earnestly addressing people’s concerns and difficulties in daily life, and working together to safeguard harmony and stability, were highlighted. A visit to the Hong Kong Palace Museum (S3)
The History and Chinese History Departments arranged all the S3 students to visit the Hong Kong Palace Museum on September 23, aiming at enhancing students’ understanding of the livelihood and work of the imperial family and officials of the Qing Dynasty. In addition to normally learning Chinese history from books and films, the visit enlightens students to learn outside the classroom. Not only does the museum act as a traditional learning platform on history, but it also provides various thematic exhibitions to broaden students’ horizon on art and technology. The museum is indeed a treasure trove of information, data, photographs, testimonials, artifacts, and interactive tools, illuminating the past, the present and the future.

SA and Inter-house Election 2022-2023
It is a noble tradition of Ying Wa to provide a platform for students to develop their potential to serve the school and become student leaders. This year, a group of 19 enthusiastic students formed the Student Association (SA) cabinet “Questa” with the slogan “Quest in spectra” while another group of 10 students formed the Inter-house cabinet “Fika” with the slogan “Revel in every scintilla”. With a passion to serve, student leaders reminded their peers the Ying Wa traditions and encouraged them to develop their confidence and unleash their leadership potential, further uniting the spirits of both the SA and the five houses of Ying Wa.

Visit to the PolyU Design Show 2022
24 Visual Arts students from S4 to S6 had the exciting opportunity to visit the PolyU Design Show 2022 on September 8. This highly anticipated annual event shone a spotlight on Hong Kong’s creative and innovation industries, presenting design projects by individual students and co-presented by students from various disciplines at PolyU Design.

Inauguration of Prefects 2022
The investiture of the 67 new prefects for the new school year took place during the assembly on September 2. In the inauguration speech, Head Prefect, Chan Yan Hei Yannis of 5D and Deputy Head Prefect Lau Hok Yau of 5D pledged on behalf of the Prefect Board to serve the school wholeheartedly and with a humble heart. Prefects are responsible for maintaining discipline in school to ensure an environment conducive to learning and passing on positive values.
