Speech Day 2022

The annual Speech Day was held successfully in the Silcock’s Hall despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. On this momentous occasion, all IMC members, graduates, teachers, and parents rejoiced in the achievements of the 2021-2022 cohort. Our Principal, Mr Francis Kwan, delivered a speech to welcome all guests and report on the recent school developments and achievements. He stressed the Ying Wa’s core values of care, courage and a serving heart and how these are manifested each day at school. Among the honourable guests was Professor Yuen Kwok Yung, GBS, SBS, JP, who graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1981 and heads the Department of Microbiology. He is known for his remarkable accomplishments as a microbiologist, surgeon and physician. In his address, he shared his personal journey of being a clinical microbiologist and infectious disease doctor. Professor Yuen talked about how his curiosity about the universe was ignited during adolescence, opening his eyes to the vast possibilities of the unknown. He also encouraged us to learn from the Bible in order to become a better version of ourselves. After his inspiring speech, Professor Yuen presented graduation certificates to the S6 students. Rudaba Rubaiyath (6D) delivered her valedictorian speech on behalf of the graduating classes. She thanked the school for nurturing them throughout the years and took everyone in attendance down memory lane as she reminisced her fondest memories as a Ying Wa girl. The Speech Day was enlivened by our Chamber Choir. They impressed the audience with their beautiful rendition of ‘Cantate Domino in B♭’. It was a fantastic evening full of proud students, staff, parents and friends who contributed to the success of the Speech Day. We wish our graduates all the very best as they embark on a new journey in life.

Premier of Fundraising Movie Gala

On December 1, 2021, the premiere of fundraising movie gala – "To My 19-year-old Self" was held at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Helmed by our distinguished alumna and internationally acclaimed director Ms Mabel Cheung, the film chronicles the growth of a unique group of Ying Wa students through their journey in secondary school – from their time in the old Robinson Road Campus to the decanting school in Sham Shui Po. The film is an up-close and honest account of the coming of age of these youngsters who all have their own fascinating stories to tell. With the generosity of all members in the YW family, the fundraising drive was a tremendous achievement for the sake of developing YW students’ potential to meet with the 21st century. Our Principal, Mr Francis Kwan, thanked the core members of the movie gala team for their kind support and contributions towards the success of the movie premiere.

School Redevelopment

After a long journey, Ying Wa has eventually embarked on a new page of its history in mid-March 2019 with the “Big Move” from the decanting site of Sham Shui Po back to our home – the Robinson Road Campus.

Our new campus provides state-of-the-art technologies and an ideal spacious learning environment.  We will certainly use them to the best advantage.  Yet, what we treasure most is not the glamourous campus, but the all-round, Christian education that we provide – nurture the young minds our inherited core values and equip them to transform, to reach new heights and to meet the challenges of the contemporary society.
